Francis Harold Drinkwater (1886-1982), a priest of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, was founder of 'The Sower' and a pioneer in the field of catechetics, on which he wrote widely and for which he gained an international reputation. He was also a commentator on contemporary issues ranging from the Spanish Civil War to money and capitalism to use of the atomic bomb. His papers reflect his broad interests, his many publications and the wide range of his correspondents.
